Does scaling loosen or damage teeth?
No. This is the most common myth about scaling. The tartar was wedged between teeth and gum; once removed, the gap it filled is briefly noticeable. The tooth itself is untouched and the gum tightens back.
Is scaling painful?
For healthy gums it is comfortable. If your gums are inflamed they may be tender, so we work gently and can numb the area for deeper cleaning.
How often do I need it?
Every six months for most people. Every three to four months if you have gum disease, smoke, or wear braces.
