Which Dental Treatment Do I Need?

03 · Preventive & general

Preventive and General Dentistry

Preventive dentistry finds problems while they are small and cheap to fix. It is the least expensive part of dental care and the one most people skip.

Dental check-up and X-rays

A check-up examines every tooth, your gums, bite, tongue and soft tissues. X-rays show decay between teeth and infection under the gum that cannot be seen by eye. Most adults need a check-up every 6–12 months. Read more about general dentistry at Dream Smile.

Visits1 (about 20–30 min)
RecoveryNone
PriceConsultation ₹200; X-rays extra

Scaling and polishing (teeth cleaning)

Scaling removes hardened tartar that brushing cannot remove; polishing smooths the surface and lifts tea, coffee and tobacco stains. Most people need no injection, and teeth may feel sensitive for a day or two.

Visits1 (30–45 min)
RecoverySame day
Price₹800–1,500 per session

Polishing only: ₹500+. Read the teeth cleaning cost guide.

Fluoride varnish and fissure sealants

Fluoride varnish strengthens enamel. Sealants are thin protective coatings painted into the grooves of back teeth, usually for children when permanent molars come in (around 6–7 and 11–14 years). According to the US Centers for Disease Control, sealants prevent about 80% of cavities in back teeth for two years and keep protecting against 50% for up to four years.

04 · Restorative

Restorative Treatments: Fillings, Root Canal and Crowns

Restorative dentistry repairs teeth that are decayed, cracked or infected, so you keep your natural tooth.

Dental fillings

A filling replaces the part of the tooth lost to decay. We use tooth-coloured composite, bonded to the tooth and shade-matched, under local anaesthetic.

Visits1 (20–45 min)
RecoverySame day
PricePriced by size, after examination

Root canal treatment (RCT)

When decay or a crack reaches the nerve, it becomes inflamed or infected. A root canal removes the infected pulp, cleans and seals the canals, and saves the tooth; the alternative is extraction. It is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients feel pressure rather than pain. A systematic review found 86–93% of root-canal-treated teeth survive over 2–10 years.

Often completed in one sitting; infected or complex teeth need two or more visits, as the NHS also notes.

Visits1–2+
RecoveryA few days of tenderness
Price₹3,500–4,500 per tooth

Crown afterwards: ₹2,000–6,000 per tooth. Read root canal treatment cost in Indore and is root canal painful?

Dental crowns (caps)

A crown covers the whole visible tooth to protect it after a root canal, a large filling or a fracture. The tooth is shaped and scanned, a temporary crown is fitted, and the final crown is cemented about 7–10 days later. In a large review, about 94.7% of metal-ceramic and 92.1% of zirconia crowns were still in place after five years.

Crown typeBest forPrice per cap
Metal-ceramic (PFM)Back teeth, budget₹2,000–2,500
ZirconiaStrength with a natural look₹5,000–6,000
E-max (all-ceramic)Front teeth, best appearance₹7,000–8,000

Read dental crown cost: zirconia vs PFM and crown vs veneer.

Tooth pain that keeps coming back?

Pain on biting or at night often means the nerve is involved. Early treatment can save the tooth.

05 · Replacing teeth

Replacing Missing Teeth: Implants, Bridges and Dentures

A gap is not only cosmetic. Neighbouring teeth drift into it, the opposite tooth over-erupts and the jawbone shrinks. There are three main ways to replace a tooth.

Dental implants

An implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone that acts as a new root, with a crown fixed on top; the neighbouring teeth are not cut. The process is a 3D scan, implant placement (about 45–60 minutes), 8–12 weeks of healing, then the crown. A 2019 systematic review reported 96.4% of implants surviving 10 years (93.2% counting patients lost to follow-up).

Visits3–4 over 3–4 months
Recovery2–3 days after surgery
Price₹30,000–35,000 per tooth

Bone graft if required: ₹5,000–10,000. All-on-4 full-mouth implants: ₹1,50,000+ per arch. Read dental implant cost in Indore.

Dental bridges

A bridge fills a gap with a false tooth held by crowns on the teeth either side. It is fixed and quicker than an implant, but the neighbouring teeth have to be shaped.

Visits2
RecoveryA few days
Price3-unit: ₹7,500–15,000 (depending on cap material)

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for several teeth (partial) or a full arch (complete). They are the most affordable option; the NHS notes it takes a few weeks to get used to them.

  • Partial dentures: ₹5,000–15,000 (depending on quality of material)
  • Flexible partial dentures: ₹10,000–18,000
  • Complete acrylic dentures: ₹8,000–20,000 (depending on quality of material)

06 · Orthodontics

Orthodontics: Braces and Clear Aligners

Orthodontic treatment moves teeth into the right position to fix crowding, gaps, protruding teeth and bite problems. Dr. Shailly Nimbark is an MDS Orthodontist, the specialist trained for this work.

Metal and ceramic braces

Brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire apply gentle, steady pressure, adjusted roughly monthly. Teeth feel sore for 2–3 days after an adjustment, and a retainer afterwards is essential or teeth drift back.

VisitsMonthly, 12–24 months for most
Recovery2–3 days after adjustments
PriceMetal ₹20,000–25,000

Ceramic (tooth-coloured) braces: ₹30,000–35,000 full treatment. Read braces cost in Indore and signs you need braces.

Clear aligners (invisible braces)

A series of transparent, removable trays made from a 3D scan. You wear them about 22 hours a day, as prescribed, and change trays roughly every two weeks. They suit many mild to moderate cases but not every bite problem, which is why a specialist assessment comes first.

VisitsCheck-ups every 6–8 weeks
RecoveryPressure for a few days per tray
PriceMild ₹45,000–55,000

Moderate or complex case: ₹60,000–80,000 full treatment. Scan and 3D simulation: ₹1,500 (deducted from treatment). Read invisible braces cost and braces vs clear aligners.

Book an aligner scan (₹1,500, deducted from treatment) or a braces assessment with our MDS Orthodontist.

07 · Cosmetic

Cosmetic Dental Procedures

Cosmetic dental procedures improve the colour, shape, size and symmetry of your smile. Many are combined in a planned smile design.

Teeth whitening

Professional whitening uses a peroxide gel to lighten natural enamel, often by several shades in one visit. Sensitivity for a few days is common. Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings.

Visits1 (about 60 min)
RecoveryPossible sensitivity
Price₹7,000–8,000 per session

Take-home custom kit: ₹3,000–5,000. Internal bleaching for one dark tooth: ₹2,000–3,000 per tooth. Read teeth whitening cost.

Porcelain veneers

Thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth change their colour and shape. A meta-analysis found 89% of porcelain veneers still in place at a median of nine years.

Visits2–4 days
RecoveryMild sensitivity
Price₹8,000–10,000 per tooth

Composite bonding

Tooth-coloured resin is sculpted onto the tooth to fix small chips and gaps in a single visit, usually without an injection.

Visits1
RecoverySame day
Price₹800–1,200 per tooth

Smile designing and gum contouring

Smile designing plans the whole smile with photos and a digital preview before treatment, and may combine whitening, bonding, veneers, crowns, aligners and gum reshaping. Laser gum treatment and depigmentation (for dark gums) cost ₹5,000–10,000.

Read smile designing cost in Indore and smile makeover before and after.

Planning a wedding or a big event?

Cosmetic work needs a few weeks of planning. Start early so we can sequence whitening before veneers or bonding.

08 · Periodontics

Gum Treatment

Gum disease starts as bleeding gums (gingivitis) and can progress to periodontitis, where the bone around the teeth is lost and teeth loosen. The NHS lists deep cleaning, and in serious cases surgery, as the main treatments.

Deep scaling and root planing

Cleaning below the gum line under local anaesthetic, usually one part of the mouth at a time. Bleeding usually reduces within a couple of weeks if home care is kept up.

Visits2–4
Recovery1–3 days of tenderness
Price₹1,000–1,500

Flap surgery for deep pockets: ₹4,000–8,000 per quadrant. Bone grafting for gums: ₹5,000+. Read bleeding gums: causes and treatment.

09 · Oral surgery

Oral Surgery and Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth that are painful, infected, decayed or causing damage are usually removed; healthy, symptom-free ones are often left and monitored, in line with NHS guidance.

Wisdom tooth removal

Done under local anaesthetic; a simple removal often takes under 40 minutes. Most people are back to normal activities in a day or two, though swelling and jaw stiffness can last up to two weeks. Aftercare helps prevent dry socket and infection.

Visits1 (+ review)
RecoverySwelling up to 2 weeks
PriceSimple ₹2,000–2,500

Surgical (impacted) removal: ₹4,000–5,000 per tooth. Read wisdom tooth removal cost and recovery and wisdom tooth pain relief.

Pain at the back of your jaw?

An X-ray shows whether your wisdom tooth is impacted and whether it needs to come out.

10 · Children

Children's Dentistry

A child's first dental visit should happen when the first milk teeth appear, and by the first birthday. Milk teeth hold space for adult teeth, and an infected milk tooth can damage the adult tooth below.

Care for children

  • Check-ups and cleaning in a calm, child-friendly way
  • Fluoride and sealants to prevent cavities in new permanent molars
  • Habit guidance for thumb-sucking, and early orthodontic checks

Read our kids dentist guide and when should a child first visit the dentist?

Family offer: one child consultation is free with each adult treatment (1 adult treatment = 1 child). Otherwise a child consultation is ₹200. See offer terms.

11 · Emergency

Emergency Dental Care

Call immediately for severe toothache, facial swelling (especially with fever or difficulty swallowing), a knocked-out tooth, heavy bleeding or a broken tooth with pain. We keep slots for same-day emergencies; the emergency consultation is ₹500, applied toward your treatment.

Knocked-out adult tooth: what to do on the way

  1. Pick it up by the crown (the white part), never the root.
  2. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly with milk or clean water. Do not scrub it.
  3. If you can, push it gently back into its socket and bite on a clean cloth. If not, keep it in milk or inside your cheek.
  4. Reach a dentist as fast as possible. The best results come when the tooth is replanted within the first hour.

13 · Cost

Dental Treatment Price List in India: What Affects the Cost?

Dental prices vary a lot between cities and clinics. Four things drive the cost of any treatment:

MaterialA zirconia or E-max crown costs more than a PFM crown; ceramic braces cost more than metal.
ComplexityA molar with curved canals takes longer than a front tooth; an impacted wisdom tooth costs more than a simple one.
Visits and lab workCrowns, veneers, dentures and aligners all involve a dental laboratory.
DiagnosticsX-rays and 3D scans are needed to plan implants, root canals and surgery safely.

At Dream Smile, the prices on this page already include our 30% treatment offer. You get a written plan showing the offer price before treatment begins. We accept cash, UPI and card.

Does health insurance cover dental treatment in India?

Most standard health insurance policies in India do not cover routine outpatient dental work such as cleaning, fillings, braces or cosmetic treatment. Some cover dental treatment needed after an accident or during hospitalisation, and some plans offer outpatient add-ons. Check your own policy wording or ask your insurer before treatment.

14 · Special situations

Pregnancy, Diabetes and Dental Anxiety

Dental treatment during pregnancy

Check-ups and cleaning are safe and recommended in pregnancy, because hormonal changes make gums bleed more easily. Urgent treatment for pain or infection should not be delayed. Non-urgent and cosmetic work is usually planned for after delivery. Always tell us you are pregnant, so X-rays and medicines are chosen accordingly.

Diabetes, heart conditions and blood thinners

Uncontrolled diabetes slows healing and worsens gum disease. If you take blood thinners, do not stop them on your own before an extraction; tell us your medicines so we can plan with your physician.

Dental anxiety

Many adults avoid the dentist because of a bad past experience. Tell us. We explain every step before we do it, use local anaesthetic, and you can raise a hand to pause at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many types of dental treatment are there?

There are about 20 common dental treatments, grouped into nine categories: preventive, restorative, tooth replacement, orthodontic, cosmetic, gum, oral surgery, children's and emergency care. Most patients only ever need a few of them.

What are the most common dental procedures?

Check-ups, scaling and polishing, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, extractions (including wisdom teeth), teeth whitening, braces or aligners, and implants.

Which dental treatment is the most painful?

Modern treatment is done under local anaesthetic, so most procedures cause pressure rather than pain. Surgical wisdom tooth removal and implant placement usually involve the most soreness afterwards, typically for a few days and managed with prescribed painkillers.

How much does dental treatment cost in Indore?

At Dream Smile: scaling ₹800–1,500 per session, root canal ₹3,500–4,500 per tooth, implant with crown ₹30,000–35,000 per tooth, metal braces ₹20,000–25,000 full treatment. The full list is in the table at the top of this page.

How many visits does dental treatment take?

Cleaning, fillings, whitening and bonding usually take one visit. Root canals take one or more; crowns and bridges two; veneers two to four days; implants three to four visits over three to four months; braces and aligners need regular visits over 12–24 months for most patients.

Can I get several treatments done in one visit?

Often, yes. For example, a cleaning and a filling, or several fillings, can be combined. Longer procedures are split across visits so each appointment stays comfortable.

What are my options for a missing tooth?

A dental implant, a bridge or a removable denture. Implants are fixed and protect the jawbone; bridges are fixed and quicker; dentures are the most affordable. See the comparison table above.

Is dental treatment safe during pregnancy?

Check-ups, cleaning and urgent treatment are safe and recommended. Elective and cosmetic treatment is usually postponed until after delivery.

Does health insurance cover dental treatment in India?

Usually not for routine or cosmetic care. Accident-related treatment or treatment during hospitalisation may be covered depending on your policy, so check with your insurer.

Is a check-up needed if nothing hurts?

Yes. Cavities and gum disease are usually painless in the early stages. A check-up every 6–12 months finds them when the treatment is still small and inexpensive.

Not sure which treatment you need?
